Beverly Zaremba

Beverly Smith Zaremba died Tuesday, August 2, 2011, in Durango, Colo. She was 81.

Mrs. Zaremba was born July 2, 1930, in Oak Park, Ill., the daughter of Anthony and Dorothy Smith. She graduated from Oak Park High School. She married Hubart B. Zaremba March 10, 1949, in Cicero, Ill. Mrs. Zaremba, also known as "Lee," was a housewife for 62 years. She raised two children. As the wife of an executive of Exxon, Amoco and BP, she was a gourmet cook who organized parties, dinners and meetings in many overseas locations. She was fluent in Spanish. Handicapped most of her adult life, she overcame hip and knee replacements and endured considerable pain with courage, grace and skill. Mrs. Zaremba lived in Durango for 22 years.

During the final four years of her life, she was bedridden and confined to a wheelchair. The following caregivers provided skilled health care with compassion and love: Paula Schaub, Joni Corbin, Ashley La Bartht, Linda Meisner, Stacy Dosch, and Julie Fletcher.

Her spouse expresses his undying love and compassion for 62 years of life with the only woman on Earth.

She was preceded in death by both parents and a brother. She is survived by husband Hubart B. Zaremba of Durango, Colo.; daughter Dr. Claudette A. Zaremba of Sitka, Alaska; son Anthony B. Zaremba of Benham, Texas; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A graveside memorial service will occur at 10 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2011, at Greenmount Cemetery. Father James Koenigsfeld of St. Columba Catholic Church will be officiating. Burial will occur at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango.
