Obituary for Earl C. Young

Earl Crawford Young, 92, died Monday, October 8, 2012, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, N.M.

Mr. Young was born August 29, 1920, in Hesperus, Colo., the son of Willis and May (Kimsey) Young. Earl grew up on the "dryside" of La Plata county. He enlisted in the Army Air Force and while there learned the aircraft mechanic trade. After being in the military, Earl was in Durango and met his future wife, Betty. They got married in Aztec and they lived in Silverton and he worked at the mines in there. They then moved to Arizona and he briefly worked at a dairy farm. He applied for civil service work while in the Phoenix area and then became employed as an aircraft mechanic for the military for almost 30 years. When he retired, he and Betty bought some land in the Ignacio area and lived there for 30 years. They then sold that property and moved to Cedar Hill, N.M.

Earl was very gifted in working on cars and anything mechanical.He was a hardworking man and enjoyed his family time, especially during the holidays. He liked to watch bull riding, wrestling and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by Betty Young (wife) of Aztec, N.M., Linda M. Lentz (daughter) of Albuquerque, N.M., Dale A. Young (son) of Calif., Mark McLeod (grandson) of Hermiston, Ore., Travis B. McLeod (grandson) of Pendleton, Ore., four great grandchildren, Paul Young (brother) of Percy, Ark., Roy Young (brother) of Montrose, Colo., Norma Jean Yeager (sister) of Durango and more extended family.

He was preceded in death by his daughters Sherry K. Young and Mary Ann Young, three brothers, two sisters, a grandson, Stephen McLeod, and one stepsister.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at 10:00 A.M. at Hood Mortuary Chapel. Burial will occur at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango.
