Obituary for
C. Marie Wood
Durango resident Clara Marie Wood died Friday, April 13, 2012, at Four Corners Health Care Center in Durango, Colo. She was 89 years old.
Mrs. Wood was born December 18, 1922, in Pleasant View, Colo., the daughter of Daniel Boon Lee and Laura Evens Lee.
She married Jacob Wood in Aztec, N.M. November 19, 1938. Marie was a homemaker and mother until the family moved to Durango in 1950. Then she was a Sunday school teacher and a Cub Scout mother. Marie was a receptionist for Dr. Lyle, D.D.S., for 14 years, a salesclerk at Woolworth’s Five and Ten, and finished up her working days at the Treasure Tunnel Gift Shop.
Marie was a member of the La Plata County Extension Homemakers, Animas Valley HOA Club and Community Hospital Auxiliary. Marie was an excellent seamstress -- she made shirts for her boys and clothes for herself. She made many clever things for the Community Hospital Bazaar.
She is preceded in death by her sons Walter Clark Wood and Elmer Eugene Wood. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Jacob Wood, of Durango; daughter-in-law, Betty Wood, and grandsons Jason, Michael, James, and Matt Wood of Milton, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Four Corners Health Care Center (enter through south door, then turn to the right) in Durango. Burial will occur at Greenmount Cemetery.
