Obituary for
Chester Wittwer
A longtime resident of Durango, Chester Wittwer, passed away on February 13, 2017, he was 95. Chester was born in a log cabin on Taughen-baugh Mesa, south of Rifle, Colorado on March 20, 1921. He was the third child of Conrad and Fannie Mae Loshbaugh Wittwer’s four children. Chester graduated from Rifle Union High School, where he played drums in the band and was on the swim team. On June 8, 1947 he married Flora Adeline Roberts and together they had three children: Marlin, Barbara and Ron. Chester shared the love of the mountains and the outdoors with his family. He loved having a garden and tending to his flowers. He spent the last 52 years of his life in Durango.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, wife Flora, son Marlin, and brothers, Carl and Leo.
Chester is survived by his children, Barbara Hopper of Virginia and Ron Wittwer of Durango; sister, Laura Norcross of Grand Junction; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A private service was held on February 18, 2017.
