Dorena Wing

October 31, 1971 — January 26, 2016

Dorena T. Wing passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at San Juan Regional Medical Center. She was 44 years old.
Dorena was born November 5, 1971, to John Wing, Jr. and the late Reis Gunn Silva in Cortez, CO. She grew up in Towaoc, moved to Ignacio at the age of 15 and attended high school and graduated from Ignacio High School. Dorena was involved with many things she liked. She was in the Native American Youth Organization, the school paper and the year book committee. After high school, Dorena was accepted to Adam's Sate College. She was wanting to go but wanted to stay behind and take care of her mom. She later started working for MC Construction, Ute Mount Ute Casino (Security), later started at Sky Ute Casino as a security officer and later became a surveillance tech. She enjoyed her job.
Dorena never met a stranger and was a friend to all. She enjoyed concerts (especially country and Eric Church) and was an avid Denver Broncos fan. People would come up to her and tell her we are Bronco family. If people disagreed with the Broncos, she would give her opinion and still say they were #1. She enjoyed going with her family to Monster Jam and watching football in Denver. She loved her nephew, Jagur, to the fullest. She attended every game and every match he played. She was his #1 supporter. She would always call him baby, but when he was in boxing he asked her not to call him baby. She agreed but when it was his turn to fight she yelled, "Come on baby!" Since then it's always been “baby” to all who know him. She would laugh and say sorry, but people know him as that because of her. She was into her religion and was a member of the Native American Church. She enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and going to Sundance, Beardance, and pow-wows. Dorena enjoyed making bread and was proud she got first place in the Southern Ute Fair.
She is survived by her father: John K. Wing, Jr. of Towaoc, brothers: Patrick Scott, Fredrick Scott and Howard Lee all of Ignacio and David Wing of Towaoc; Sister Dorothy Wing of Ignacio, Yvonne, Jagur & Jeff Velasco of Ignacio, Miranda (Ron) Price and Corita of Ignacio, Ted Wing and Davis (Stacey) Wing of Towaoc, Tiara Coggeshell of Arizona, Mouneek Wing, Jordan Wing, Lynelle and aDelia Scott.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Reis Gunn Silva; Brothers: James Scott, Eric Wing, Chavez Scott and Yancy Wing; Sisters: Victoria Velasco and Gwen Wing; Niece: Jamie Scott; Grandfathers: Juan Silva and John Wing, Sr.; Grandmother: Nettie Gunn; Great-grandfather: Bill Gunn; Great-grandmother: Adelia Hight; and Uncles: Thomas Wing and Edwin Wing.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016 from 6 – 8 PM at Hood Mortuary. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016 at 10AM, at the Southern Ute Multipurpose Room, with burial to follow at Ouray Memorial Cemetery.
