Obituary for
Jessie M. Winecki
Jessie Mae Winecki died of heart failure Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at Four Corners Health Care Center in Durango, Colo. She was 98.
Jessie was born November 3, 1913, in Mayville, Wis., the daughter of William and Hilda Greget. She completed the eighth grade in Mayville, and later she married Benjamin Winecki on May 13, 1936. Jessie was the head chef and restaurant manager of the famous Hot Fish Shop in Stevens Point, Wis., for more than 25 years. She was an accomplished quilter in her retirement, and she loved and rescued a number of cats and dogs.
She moved to Durango in October of 2011 to be closer to her granddaughter and great-grandchildren. Her granddaughter said that this was Jessie's first time in the mountains, and it was a grand adventure.
Benjamin preceded her in death at the age of 93. Jessie is survived by her six children: Robert Winecki of San Antonio, Texas, Ronald Winecki of Hot Springs, Ark., Richard Winecki of Walnut Grove, Calif., William Winecki of Pensacola, Fla., Susan Winecki of Milwaukee, Wis., and Mary Lou Lineberger of Bluffton, S.C.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2012, at Hood Mortuary Chapel. Chaplain Susan Winecki will be officiating. Cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jessie Winecki’s name to the La Plata County Humane Society, 1111 S. Camino Del Rio, Durango, CO 81303.
