Jack P Winchester
Jack P. Winchester, age 90, died on September 1, 2014, at his home in Bayfield, Colorado.
Mr. Winchester is survived by his wife, Marie Gen, of 65 years, and his 5 children: William, Mary, Catherine, Patricia and John. He is preceded in death by his daughter Caroline. He was grandfather to eleven grandchildren: Charlton, Hope, Leslie, Chris, Aimee, Dawn, Sarah, Corey, Jessie, Robert and Cristelle. Jack was a good man who faithfully provided for his family.
Jack was a veteran of World War II. He served as a sergeant in the 1st Calvary and was one of the last mounted horsemen in the United States Army. He rode a horse named Riley. When World War II broke out the 1st Calvary changed to an infantry division. He served four years in the Pacific Theater where he was awarded the Soldier’s Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. Jack then returned to civilian life where he was employed at McClellan Air Force base in Sacramento, California. Jack subsequently served seven tours in Viet Nam, Philippines and Thailand.
After Viet Nam Jack retired and continued his passion for animals as a successful rancher in northern California and for the last ten years in Bayfield, Colorado. He led an epic life and he was our hero.
Private services were held by the family in Bayfield, Colorado.
