Sharon K. Wiebel of Durango passed away June 18th, 2015, at home in Durango. She was 72.
Sharon was born June 30th, 1942, in Iowa City, IA, to Floyd and Cathryn Lewis. She grew up in Wellman, IA. obtained her nursing degree from the University of Iowa. She married Ronald Wiebel on January 8, 1965 in Rock Island, IL. Their children were born in Davenport, IA. They moved to Durango in 1972 and she began working as a nurse at Community Hospital. She continued her career at Mercy Medical Center until her retirement in 2007. Sharon also taught nursing programs at San Juan Community College.
Sharon was active in the La Plata Quilters Guild, Christ the King Lutheran Church, she loved to craft dolls and was known to donate her creations for charity auctions.
She is survived by two sons: Mike of Arvada (wife, Amanda), Chris of Durango (wife, Kristi), a step son: Scott of Davenport, Iowa, grandson: Griffin of Arvada; step-granddaughter: Nancy Linda of Evanston, Illinois; and Gus, her canine companion.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ron, a grandson, Jarrett, and her parents.
