Born in The Netherlands, “Opa” Fred immigrated to Wisconsin with his family at the age of 18. In the Army, stationed in Colorado Springs, he met his first wife, together they had four children. He was a skilled engineer with 30 patents in his name and worked on many others. He retired to Durango where he pursued his hobby as a “gentlemen rancher” and worked part time at Walmart. In 2000, Fred married his second wife in The Philippines and her three children joined him in Durango. A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, Fred shared his faith with everyone. He loved his family deeply and has left a legacy in faith for them to follow. He is survived by four brothers, first wife, Charlene (Heersink) and their children Scotty, Diane, Ren and Karl, current wife, Armeliza (Salunga) and adopted children, Renz, Ralph and Camille.
