Obituary for
Ted E Weirather
Ted Eugene Weirather passed away, surrounded by his family,on November 28,2014 in Durango,CO at the age of 67. He leaves behind his wife,Susan(nee Pabst),son, Brian(Sarah)Weirather and grandson,James of Mansfield, TX.
Ted was born on January 26,1947 in Pella,Iowa,to Vivian and Ruth Weirather, who predeceased him.He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1969 with a degree in business and was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity.Ted completed the Graduate School of Banking program in 1988 at the University of Wisconsin,Madison. He served in the US Army from 1969-1972.
After completing his military service,Ted found a home and employment in Milwaukee,WI. He worked for M&I Bank for 33 years, retired as Vice President in 2005 and moved to Durango to fulfill his dream of living in the mountains.Ted married Susan on May 11, 1984 and their 30 years together were filled with much love and laughter.
Ted cherished his family. He was a very dedicated, loving Dad and caring, giving husband.Ted has been described as a gentleman who was gentle in spirit and kind in heart. He had an ease about him that was calming to be around and his smile truly radiated his love of life.Ted shared these wonderful gifts without even realizing how deeply he touched everyone around him.
Ted found great pleasure in serving others. He became involved with the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee and served on two local branch boards for many years. This involvement led him to serve as Chairman of the Metropolitan International Committee from 1985-1989. Ted joined the T-M Rotary Club, where he was a member from 1993-2005.There, he served as President and Asst.District Governor,as well as serving on many committees. After his move to Durango,Ted joined the Durango High Noon Rotary Club in 2006,where,again,he continued to be very involved in club activities.
Besides serving others,Ted's passions included travel and photography. He enjoyed the outdoors and sports, including skiing, golf, tennis, hiking and biking.Ted's love of music made for an occasionally(often according to his wife)loud atmosphere in his home. While his Thespian dream ended in high school,Ted continued to keep us laughing with his quirky sense of humor.
Knowing Ted would want us to celebrate his life,a memorial service will be scheduled for a yet to be determined time and place. Memorial donations made to the Rotary Foundation Endowment Fund would be greatly appreciated. They can be made online at www.rotary.org/give.
