Durango native Shirley R Vigil-Williams passed away at her home on Tuesday September 9, 2014 of complications from heart failure, pneumonia and other long term illness. She was 72. A celebration of her life will be on Saturday September 13, 2014 at 11:00 am at Hood Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow at Greenmount Cemetery.
Ms. Vigil-Williams was born to Jake Vigil, Sr. and Cleo Vigil on November 24, 1941 in Durango, Colorado. She grew up in Durango, and then moved to Denver where she resided for 17 years before returning to Durango in 1993. She was a long term employee of Mercy Medical Center for 20 years and 1 day.
She is survived by her four daughters; Bobbi Vigil of Denver, Janet (Stacy) Torres of Denver, Renee (Keith) Thompson of Ignacio and Regina Benavedez of Denver.
Shirley was preceded in death by her daughter Christine Martinez of Durango and sister Lucy Scheidecker of San Bernadino, California.
Shirley is also survived by her siblings; Myrna (John) Wright of Arvada, Colo, Bennie (Amador) Tucson of Durango, Jake, Jr. (Emily) Vigil of Denver, Thomas (Alice) Vigil of Denver and Ron (Connie) Vigil of Durango. Other survivors include 14 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
