Larry Valdez, of Durango, Colorado, went to Heaven on April 15, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born to Delphin and Leonarde Valdez in Durango, Colorado on November 26, 1949. He graduated from Durango High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Army and was immediately sent to Vietnam. While serving, he was awarded many medals, including the Purple Heart service medal with 3 bronze service stars, and the bronze star with Vietnam service medal. After his service he returned to Durango and worked various jobs. He began working at the United States Post Office in Denver, Colorado. He retired after 20 years for service. After retiring, he returned to Durango.
During life, he enjoyed spending time with his family, including his two children; Rio and Lori Ann and their children. He also enjoyed watching boxing on T.V., hanging out with his childhood friends and fishing.
He predeceased by his parents and his brother, Joe Valdez.
He is survived by his children, Lori Ann Sandoval, Rio Valdez Three Stars; his siblings, Ernie Valdez, Mabel Wallace, Lilia Nix, Bernice Avellino and Susan Diaz; his grandchildren, Brody, Anna, Shaleen, Francisco; great grandchildren; Julian and Naryah ; nieces and nephews, Terresa, Billy, Todd, January, Gypsy, Sandra.
Services will be held, April 21, 2021, at 10 am, at Hood Mortuary Chapel, Durango, Colorado. Interment will occur after services at Greenmount Cemetery, where he will be honored with military services.
