Beatrice Mitsue Ugai (Nakada)
Beatrice Mitsue Ugai passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at home surrounded by family. She was 94 years old.
Beatrice was born November 23, 1922, to Harry and Yuki Nakada in Mitchell, Neb. She attended school at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and obtained a bachelor's degree. Then, Beatrice moved to Chicago to work as a graphic designer. She moved to North Platte, Neb., then to Wyoming to attend the University in Laramie, and graduated with her teaching credentials and Masters Degree. Beatrice began teaching art at the junior high school in North Platte. It was there in North Platte that she raised her family and lived for many years.
In 2014 she moved to Durango to be closer to family.
Art was a passion in her life. She knitted, was active in church in North Platte at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior, was an avid bowler and excellent bridge player.
She is survived by sons: Norman R. (Kay) Ugai, Richard J. (Jeanette) Ugai and Mark (Barbara) Ugai; sister: Maudie Noma; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother and sister: Pershing Nakada and Alice Ugai.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
