Cecilia Ann Tucker, nearly 81 years old, left to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus, at noon on the 7th of February 2022, following a battle with congestive heart failure, Alzheimer's Disease/Dementia. She lived her entire life in the Ignacio, Allison and Tiffany areas.
Cecilia graduated from Durango High School. She married her first Husband, Pat Gallegos, and after his passing in December 1979, she chose to further her education and attended Fort Lewis College where she graduated with a degree in Education. Cecilia then attended the University of New Mexico College of Human Sciences, where she eventually earned a Master’s Degree for Addictions Recovery Counseling. She used her education as an Addictions Counselor in the town of Ignacio for 30 years, until she finally retired. She loved spending time with her family, she was proud of them all. You may have heard a brag or two concerning her family. She enjoyed taking long walks; which many in the community will remember about her. She was an active part of her community for as long as she could be. She also enjoyed cultivating, and tending to her flower gardens. She was a devote Catholic and a Carmelita Sister. She had a memory like file cabinet and could recall stories of past as if it were yesterday. She was bright and intellectual. Cecilia was a warrior just as all Garcia's are. There is scarcely a complaint from their lips. They just get the job done. She was proud to be a daughter (#10 of 15 children) of Alfredo (Fred) Garcia and Matilda (Beatrice) Abeyta Garcia. She loved her grand-children dearly and did all she could to be part of their lives. She was kind, soft-spoken and welcoming. She was shy but tough. She will be missed dearly.
Cecilia is survived by her husband of 40 years, Lawrence Strike Tucker, her daughter, Brenda Poulton-Jakins and two sons, P. Ryan Gallegos and Gregory B. Gallegos; as well as 5 grandchildren: Travis, April, Noah, Rachelle and Israel and 6 great-grandchildren. She will be leaving 5 surviving Brothers, Alfred, Isaac, Gilbert, Arthur and Cristobal (Chris) and 2 Sisters, Lydia and Virginia. Cecilia was preceded in death by 6 Sisters, Juanita, Matilda (Mattie), Elizabeth, Thelma, Donelia, and Dora; and her oldest Brother Miquel (Mike) as well as her beloved Parents.
A Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday, February 13th, 2022 at the Saint Ignatius Catholic Church in Ignacio, Colorado. The Funeral Mass will also be held at Saint Ignatius on Monday, February 14th, 2022 at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at the Ignacio Cemetery East. A reception will be held at the Saint Ignatius Parish hall following the burial service.
