Obituary for
Allen H. Trimmer
Allen Trimmer of Hope Town, Abaco Bahamas, Durango, Colorado, and Blakely Island, Washington, died June 4, 2012, in Durango peacefully, surrounded by love, after a brief illness. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, in 1920, the only child of Howard C. Trimmer and Maude Worden Trimmer.
His was a true a rags to riches story. A product of the Great Depression, Allen went from building and selling model airplanes in his mother’s basement at age twelve to owning and running a successful business.
Together with his beloved wife, Barbara Wise Trimmer, Allen enjoyed all aspects of life to the fullest. He was a pilot, a boater, a railroad enthusiast, a charming acquaintance and a steadfast friend.
Allen, along with Barbara, forged many lasting friendships on their annual summer visits to Durango and Blakely Island. But it is Hope Town where he and Barbara were most at home and that was closest to their hearts.
Allen was preceded in death by his wife Barbara. He is survived by his loving daughters Barbara Trimmer (Frank Ayers), Marilyn Trimmer (Scott Gregory), stepdaughter Bobbie Burton, nieces Judy Balas, M. J. Garlick (Bonnie Wegner), Sue Garlick and very special friends Jay and Margy Lee Wannamaker and Christine and John Beranek of Durango.
The family wishes especially to thank Jeff McElwain, P.A.C. Mancos Valley Health Center, and caring nurses Feather, Andrea, and Pat and everyone at Hospice of Mercy, Durango.
Arrangements by Hood Mortuary of Durango. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution may consider Hospice of Mercy (centurahealthathome.org), Hope Town Fire and Rescue (hopetownfirerescue.com), Bahamas Lighthouse Preservation Society (elbowcaylighthouse.com) or a charity of their choice.
