Obituary for
Suzan Trimm
Suzan Trimm, 69 years old, of Hesperus, Colorado, died suddenly on April 4, 2012. She was born January 31, 1943, to Bob and Barbara Trimm in Southern California. Her parents and older sister, Linda Mitchell, have preceded her. She is survived by her brother, Carlton Trimm and her daughters, Greta D’Amico and Kristen Panico.
Suzan grew up in California where she reared her two daughters as a single mother, supporting her family as an escrow officer in Big Bear Lake. Later, she opened a care home for the elderly before moving to Hesperus. Since moving to Colorado nearly nine years ago, she enjoyed working for the Durango School District where she served as a substitute teacher and aide for special needs children.
A horsewoman from the time she was a girl, Suzan loved animals and always had some combination of horses, dogs, cats and goats which gave her great comfort, entertainment and joy. Later in life, she developed a special interest and love for greyhounds and supported greyhound rescue, where she adopted her late dogs Gracie and Kayla.
As a personal aide, she had the joy and privilege with working with one child in particular, Bryce Bailey, with whom she developed a special affection and lifelong friendship. She will be especially missed by Bryce and his family and by her daughters, their husbands and her grandchildren, Jesse and Madison Panico.
Suzan’s daughters would like to extend special thanks to Cal Bailey and Suzan’s many caring neighbors and friends in the Hesperus area who went out of their way to help with transportation, plowing, home repair, moral support, animal care, errands and countless other things — especially more recently since Suzan’s house burned in late January. Although Suzan prided herself an independent woman, that independence was surely made more possible through the help, care, support and prayers of many other people.
A potluck celebration of Suzan’s life will be held at the Marvel Grange Hall on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 10:00 am. All are welcome. Please call Kristen at 856-261-8097 for more information. Should friends desire, contributions will be accepted on her behalf for the Greyhound Companions of New Mexico, www.gcnm.org.
