Tim Watts, 74, was an enrolled member of the Southern Ute Indian tribe when he left this Earth, on March 31st 2024 at his home in La Boca Ranch, surrounded by all his family. Tim was born at the Taylor Hospital in Ignacio on October 17th 1949, to Ed and Rosa Watts. Tim was the oldest out of eight children, grew up and was surrounded by family and love throughout his childhood.
Tim then joined the army after graduating high school and was stationed at Fort Ford in California. He later transferred to Fort Carson in Colorado. After his Army training he was deployed to Vietnam and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1975. He served in the 101st Airborne “Screaming Eagles” Unit A2/327th Infantry.
After his honorable discharge from the Army he attended school for archeology but also came back to contribute to the tribe and work in various departments which include: Patrol Office for SUPD, Maintenance Man at the Pino Nuche, Service Ranger in Chaco Canyon, New Mexico, and Park Ranger in Gunnison, Colorado.
His true passion was archeology and he was a co-owner of the Muukui-ci and was President/Project Supervisor. He pursued his passion for over 40 years until he retired from his field but was still involved in any way possible.
Tim was a traveler and love to take trips by himself or with the family! He was always learning but loved teaching.
He is survived by his siblings: Raphael Watts, Sr. (Edwina), Gloria Frost, and Marshall Watts, all of Ignacio; many nieces nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents: Ed and Rosa Watts; grandparents: Max and Ellen Watts, and George and Anna Norris; and brother: Robert Watts
A wake will precede the Mass at 6 pm on Wednesday at his home, 23146 HWY 172. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, April 4, 2024 at St. Ignatius Church, Ignacio, CO, followed by burial at La Boca Cemetery with full military honors.
