Obituary for
Mary A. Thomson
Our Heavenly Father welcomed Mary Alma Thomson into His open arms on November 1, 2012, after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer. Mary was born on July 5, 1932, to Ted and Ruth Lattin in Pagosa Springs, Colo. She was a lifelong resident and registered pioneer of Colorado and has resided in Durango since 1980.
Mary is survived by her husband of 61 years, Blaine Thomson, of Durango; two sons and their wives: Rocky Thomson and Lorie of Farmington, N.M., and Rick Thomson and Wendy of Lakewood, Colo.; a sister, Dean Maddux, of Alamosa, Colo.; three grandchildren: Camille Larson and her husband Jonah of Durango, Jared Thomson of Seattle, Wash., and Jane Thomson of Lakewood, Colo.; and one precious great-grandson, Stone Larson, of Durango.
For many years Mary served as a deputy county clerk in Montezuma County, Ouray County and finally in La Plata County until retiring in 1989.
Mary had a passion for life. Her greatest loves were Faith, Family and Friends. She and Blaine had been over every four-wheel drive road in the Four Corners area. She loved all sports, and especially enjoyed golfing with friends. Even in supporting her grandchildren in their respective activities all of the grandkids teammates wanted to know, "Is Grandma going to be here?" Everyone knew when Mary was there and she left no doubt where she stood and who she was supporting.
Mary was active in the First Methodist Church in Durango and really enjoyed working in the Methodist Thrift Shop. She had also been very active in the First Methodist Church in Cortez, as well as the Presbyterian Church in Ouray.
The family would like to thank the literally hundreds of card senders and visitors of the past few months. It means more than we can ever express. Mary will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Hospice of Mercy, 1 Mercado Street, Suite 270, Durango, CO 81301. This organization proved to be a true Godsend in such a difficult time. God bless all of you.
There will be a short memorial service at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church of Durango to celebrate Mary's life.
