Obituary for
Bobby D. Thompson
Longtime Durango resident Bobby D. Thompson passed away at his home in Memphis, T., on March 22, 2011, after a long illness. He was 78.
Mr. Thompson graduated from Durango High School in 1951, and then served as a Pilot for the US Navy Air Corp during the Korean War. After his discharge from the service, he attended Arizona State University in Phoenix and earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He worked in Arizona and the Silicon Valley in California in the Defense industry for 30 years. After his retirement, he returned to his beloved Durango until his illness required him to leave the high elevation. His last wish was to be returned to Durango for his eternal rest.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Thompson, four children, Stacey Owen, Elizabeth (Jim) Carpenter, Bobby (Susan) Thompson, Jr., and Patricia Thompson, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the LaPlata County Humane Society, 1111 S. Camino Del Rio, Durango, CO 81303.
