Obituary for
Grace M. Swanson
Grace Marie Swanson, a loving wife, homemaker, partner, compassionate friend of many and lover of horses, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2012, at Mercy Regional Medical Center.
She was born June 27, 1931, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, daughter of John and Eva Musil, and grew up in Boulder, Colo. She was graduated from University of Colorado with a degree in chemistry and medical technology and worked as a lab technician. Grace married Robert Swanson, M.D., in June of 1957. They moved together to Durango in 1961 and she worked as his office secretary.
She also raised Morgan horses and over the years earned many show ribbons as well as the respect of the national Morgan Horse community. Grace was also a long time member of the philanthropic women’s organization, PEO.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert Swanson, as well as five nieces and one nephew. Nieces residing in Colorado include Sarah Burris (Durango), Karen Christensen (Foxfield) and Rebecca Thompson (Salida). A celebration of her life will be held in early spring for friends and family.
