Elvira L Swanson
Elvira L. Swanson, our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away at the age of 94 on Wednesday, May 21st 2014. She was born into a large Finnish family in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She was always strong, smart and independent. Mrs. Swanson came to Colorado in 1947 with her husband, Bill. He preceded her in death in 1971. Mrs. Swanson worked for many years at Mercy Hospital as an LPN and loved taking care of her patients. She was a good cook, and a baker of delicious deserts. She loved working outdoors as she was an avid gardener. A skilled seamstress, she also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting. She had a strong faith in God and her faith never diminished. She was a keen reader, enjoying all forms of literature.
Mrs. Swanson is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Swanson of Durango and Barbara Swanson Mena of Albuquerque, New Mexico and her grandchildren Amanda Chino and Emily Flores of Albuquerque and Eric Swanson of Durango who was her primary caregiver for the last year of her life. She was totally delighted with her three great grandchildren who affectionately called her Nana.
Services will be held on Friday, May 23rd at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Durango. The officiant will be Pastor Monte Gusewelle.
