Mrs. Suazo was born May 14, 1965, in Durango, Colo., the daughter of Phil Cordova and Benarita Lobato. Louise grew up and attended schools in Durango. After graduating from Durango High School, she began her lifelong and compassionate career of taking care of others. She worked at the county Head Start first for 12 years and then as a special needs teacher at Durango High School. In recent years, she was the caregiver to Cole Behr. “She had a huge heart that extended from being a single mother to two girls (Ashley and Misty) for 8 years and then to those individuals that she helped all those years in La Plata County,” fondly recall her family. And Louise did find her future husband, after meeting him in Old Tymer’s restaurant in 1992. Mark Suazo and Louise were married in 2000 in Durango and had a son, Marcos.
Louise liked her relaxation time, usually enjoying it by playing Solitaire or calling up her grandchildren on the phone. All of her family enjoyed her cooking, especially her meatloaf and homemade tortillas. “Louise also loved her Lord,” says her family, “and she was so proud and happy to have been recently baptized at New Hope Church in May 2011.” Louise enjoyed listening to Christian music, watching Inspiration television and serving in her church, New Hope Durango.
She is survived by Mark Suazo (spouse) of Bayfield, Colo., Misty Trujillo (daughter) of Durango, Colo., Ashley Trujillo (daughter) of Ignacio, Colo., Marcos Suazo (son) of Bayfield, Colo.; grandchildren: Mia Rodriguez, Kiara Rodriguez, Isiah Castro, Layla Castro, Dominic Lucero (grandson on the way); Bennie Lobato (mother) of Durango, Colo., Alfred Lujan (stepfather) of Durango, Colo., Alvina Albo (grandmother) of Durango, Colo., Toby Lujan (brother) of Durango, Colo., Paula Vautrin (sister) of Phoenix, Ariz., Phil Cordova (brother), Virginia DeTour (sister) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.
