Obituary for
Fred James Suazo
Fred James Suazo passed away on June 2, 2014 at the age of 85. He was born in Durango, Colorado on October 16, 1928 to Martin and Juanita Suazo.
His military service included two honorable discharge from the U.S Marine Corp 1945-1946 and the U.S. Army 1947-1948 during the pre-occupation of Korea.
In 1953 he bought a used BSA motorcycle and rode to Vera Cruz, Mex., stayed until the rainy season passed, and continued on to South America. In 1955 he married Mary Pamela William. They had six children.
A quiet man who found camaraderie as Life Member of the VFW Post # 4031, Life Member Disabled American Veterans, Silver San Juan # 48, and a member of the American Legion, Trujillo-Sheets Post. Commands he held were VFW Post # 4031 Commander, Chaplain, Historian and Color Guard.
He worked fifteen years as custodian for the U. S. Post Office. During his retirement he volunteered his time to the senior Meals on Wheels program for several years. Fred was always available to assist friends, to drive them to doctor appointments, or grocery shopping.
He enjoyed collecting stamps, coins, antiques and farm implements. His family and friends loved him with much affection. Fred was very proud to support our veterans and their families.
He is survived by his sister Oralia Suazo, of Livermore, Calif.; daughters: Agnes Suazo and Cecilia Suazo of Durango; and Susie ( Steve) Sanchez, of Ignacio, Colo.; sons: Kevin Suazo and Duane Suazo, of Durango; sisters-in-law: Mary (Tony) Santistevan and Vonestine William of Ignacio; brothers-in-law: Roy (Vera) O 'John of Ignacio, and Robert Lee of Livermore; grandchild: Andrea; great-grandchildren: Mercedes and Elijah; and many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, a son: Norbert; and a sister: Elidia Lee.
A rosary will be held on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church followed by a Graveside Military Committal at Greenmount Cemetery.
