Obituary for
Sharon Jean Stein
Sharon Jean Stein, 65, died Saturday, July 6, 2013, in Durango, Colo. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 8 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Durango. Sharon was born August 17, 1947, in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Sidney and Wisteria Blaha. She grew up in Houston and attended schools there. She attended business administration school in Houston. She was married to Louis Stein for eleven years, and they were divorced in 1979. She acquired custody of their daughter Jennifer and raised her with all of her love, commitment, and support. Louis was always in Jennifer’s life, too. Sharon moved to Colorado, most recently, 14 years ago. Sharon worked in Durango at the Durango Lodge for about 9 years until a cancer diagnosis forced her retirement. According to her daughter, Jennifer, Sharon’s life was difficult at times, but she always stayed positive and remained a free spirit. “She did what she wanted, when she wanted, and how she wanted. We all loved that about her,” remembers Jennifer. “Sharon will always be deeply missed. After a four-year fight, cancer may have taken her body, but it will never take her soul.” Sharon’s sister Jacki told Jennifer, “Your mom stubbornly left you yesterday, but only with the promise from God that Heaven would be a lot like Colorado.” She is survived by Jennifer Hamilton (daughter) of Durango, Jacki Collins (sister) of Friendswood, Texas, Connie Wright (sister) of Conroe, Texas, and two grandchildren: Hailey Hamilton and Matthew Stein. She was preceded in death by former spouse, Louis Stein, and her parents. Memorial contributions may be sent to: Jennifer Hamilton, 639 Arroyo Dr. #272, Durango, CO 81301.
