Obituary for
Kathryn A. Stancampiano
Kathryn D. Stancampiano, born October 14, 1946 to Joseph and Helen Alexander of Atlanta, TX, died on Saturday at dawn, January 12, 2013, at home after a strong battle with cancer. She is survived by her mother, Helen Alexander, her husband, Michael Stancampiano, her four children, Jeremiah, Michaelangelo, Alexander and Juliana, two daughters-in-law, one son-in-law and nine grandchildren. Kathy graduated from TJ High in Dallas, TX, in 1964, and then continued her education at SMU, graduating in 1968. She then took a road trip with friends, deciding not to attend Woodstock luckily for her children, and heading to Washington State where she met Michael in 1970. They moved to Oklahoma in 1972 to be closer to family as she was pregnant with their second child. They had the rest of the children at home in Oklahoma. In 1981 they moved to Juneau, Alaska, where Kathy was a mom and teacher. She received her teacher’s certification from the University of Alaska, Juneau. In 1985 they moved to Fairbanks. While there she ran sled dogs, continued teaching and watched her kids go downhill (skiing). In 1992 they moved to Colorado to be closer to family and a bit warmer. Kathy and the family have lived in the Durango area now for 21 years where she received her Masters in Reading from UNC and continued to be a teacher and tutor for the Durango School District as well as the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. Kathy retired in 2005 and spent her time traveling around to see grandchildren and supporting Michael in his new role as a Federal Indian Probate Judge. She had a strong passion for family, kids, nutrition and life in general; she will be remembered fondly and missed dearly. Donations can be made through random acts of kindness with her memory attached.
