Obituary for Scott Russell Sparks

Scott Russell Sparks, 47, died Sunday, May 4, 2014 in Durango, Colorado. Services will be Monday, May 12, 11:00 a.m. at the 1st Congregational Church of Christ in Grand Junction.
Scott was born May 11, 1966 in Boulder, Colorado, son of Gene and Lee Sparks. He grew up in Boulder until the beginning of his Sophomore year when the family moved to Cortez, Colorado. He graduated from Montezuma-Cortez, High School in 1985. He attended Western State College for a year and Fort Lewis College in Durango for a year.
Scott owned and operated Movies ToGo on north Main Street in Durango for many years. After moving to Grand Junction he worked in sales for One Source Lighting.
Scott was always into the arts. In high school he was active in the dramatic arts, appearing in most of the school plays. He was also active in the school choir, a trait he carried into his adult life in community and church choirs. As an adult he also created beautiful pottery and paintings. And unknown to many, he was an accomplished chef, creating culinary delights for family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Hannah Sparks of Durango, his parents Gene and Lee Sparks and grandson Mason Sparks. His siblings are Jeff Sparks of Grand Junction, Kelli Kessell of Grand Junction and Jennifer Carter (Tom) of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and extended family who will miss his quick wit and loving compassion.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the 1st Congregational Church of Christ, 1425 N. 5th Street, Grand Junction, CO, 81501. (970) 242-0298.
