Sonya Pardo

August 2, 1981 — January 4, 2025

Ignacio, Colorado

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sonya Pardo, who passed away on January 4, 2025. Sonya was born on August 2, 1981 in Hennessey, Oklahoma to Arnulfo Pardo Sr & Loretta Pardo. Sonya was a woman whose warmth, humor, and kindness touched everyone she met. Her love was unconditional, her laughter infectious, and her presence a gift to all who were lucky enough to know her.

Sonya’s heart was open to all, and her ability to make others feel welcome and cherished was one of her greatest gifts. She had a special way of making everyone feel loved and welcome, no matter who they were or where they came from. Whether it was for a holiday or a casual visit, she made sure everyone felt at home. Her ability to listen, comfort, and make others laugh was unmatched, and those who spent time with her always left feeling loved and cared for.

Her cooking was legendary, and her meals were more than just food– they were expressions of her love and thoughtfulness. Her family will forever miss not just the taste of her cooking, but the love and warmth that came with every meal she made, especially her famous red chili burritos.

Above all, Sonya was the most devoted mother to her daughter Mariah. She was a mother who not only nurtured but inspired, who celebrated her daughter’s accomplishments and offered comfort in times of need. She was, without question, Mariah’s greatest cheerleader and the source of endless love and guidance. She always made sure her daughter knew how much she cared and how deeply she was loved. Sonya also had a special place in her heart for all of her nieces and nephews, with whom she spent countless moments of love, laughter, and fun.

Although we will miss her more than words can say, we find comfort in knowing she is at peace, reunited with loved ones who have passed before her. Her love will live on in our hearts forever, and we will carry her memory with us, honoring her in everything we do.

Sonya is lovingly survived by her father Arnulfo Pardo Sr, her daughter Mariah Pardo (Raphael Herrera), her brother Arnulfo Pardo Jr. (Lindsay Box), her sister Maria Pardo (Lee Cruz), nieces and nephews Arnulfo Pardo III, Kruz Pardo, Amarante Pardo, Eufemia Pardo, Kiko Pardo, Soriah Perez, Roberto Perez, Sierra Red, Mckayla Red, Elias Cruz Jr, and one great nephew Arnulfo Pardo IV.

She is preceded in death by her mother Loretta Pardo and her sister Marcie Perez.

A celebration of life in honor of Sonya will be held on January 24, 2025 at 10 O’Clock a.m. at Hood Mortuary in Durango Colorado. The family invites you to join us for a gathering of remembrance, followed by a reception to continue sharing memories.
