On Good Friday, April 14, 2017, Bayfield resident Ernest 'Wayne' Siner passed away suddenly at home. Dad turned a young 93 in December.
Wayne was born on Dec 18th, 1923 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Earl and Lou Siner, share-crop farmers. The family left for Southern California for better times when dad was 10 years old. He graduated from Montebello High School and enlisted in the US Coast Guard right after school. He maintained friendships with those he served with in Alaska. A year after the war was over dad met a very lovely, young lady at the East Los Angeles Foursquare Church during a Valentine social and in 3 months they were married. They fell so deeply in love and remained that way until mom's death, 68 years later, here in Bayfield.
Wayne worked several jobs in his life, including the Southern California Telephone Co., Laughlin Tours as a tour guide in Canada and the East Coast fall foliage tours. He also worked for his friend, Carl Malady Trucking Supply Co.
Mom and dad spent their energies raising Dennis Wayne, Linda Lee, Timothy John and Douglas Neal. He made sure to take them on many, many camping trips around California. Besides family, they loved teaching Sunday School and singing in church.
A family friend remarked to us that "your parents were the most genuine and loving people they had ever known." This sums up their lives.
He is survived by children, Linda Shaw and Douglas Siner, both of Bayfield. Along with 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at the Pine Valley Church, 1328 County Road 501 in Bayfield. The Rev. Scott Kujath will officiate. A graveside service will take place afterward at Pine River Cemetery.
