Obituary for Anthony J. Siekman

Anthony James Siekman died Thursday, April 21, 2011, from complications of lymphoma. He was 48.

Known as “Tony”, Mr. Siekman was born October 16, 1962, to Jim and Nancy Siekman in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was raised in Loveland, Ohio, and attended Loveland High School, where he was an outstanding baseball player.

He graduated from Kent State University with a BA in business. After graduation he moved to Baltimore and then Atlanta where he became a Technical Director in Business Theater Production. He was known to be one of the best in his business and was widely respected by his peers, his colleagues and his clients.

He met the love of his life, Dana, in 1991 while they were working on a production together. They married in 1992 and had three sons, Jake, Hayden and Clay. Mr. and Mrs. Siekman started The WIT Company -- a technical staging and production company -- in 1992. WIT, standing for “whatever it takes,” was a motto that Tony lived by in both his personal and professional life.

The Siekmans have lived in Durango for 14 years and have loved the community from the moment they got here. They have also spent many summers at their home in Bethany Beach, Del. Being on the beach with his loved ones was where Tony was the happiest.

Tony’s passion was his family. He loved his wife and his boys more than anything, and although he traveled often, his heart was always in Durango with them. He was extremely proud of his sons and enjoyed watching them play sports, play music and be honored for their academic achievements.

Mr. Siekman will be most remembered for his dedication and loyalty to his friends, his generosity to the community, his wonderful sense of humor and his ability to brighten anyone’s day.

Mr. Siekman is survived by his wife of 19 years, Dana, his sons Jake, 18, Hayden, 17, and Clay, 16; parents Jim and Nancy Siekman of Loveland, Ohio; brothers Danny Siekman of O’Fallon, Mo., Jeff Siekman of Loveland, Ohio and Matt Siekman of Loveland, Ohio; his many brothers and sisters- in-law; in-laws, Dick and Jeanie Ridgway of Bethany Beach, Del., and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mr. Siekman’s life will be held at the Durango High School Gymnasium on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at 6:30 PM, with a reception to follow in the DHS cafeteria.

The Siekman family will always be grateful for the care Tony received while at Mercy Regional Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Mercy Health Foundation, 1010 Three Springs Blvd, Durango, CO 81301.
