Obituary for
Olga Elizabeth Shry
Olga Elizabeth Shry, 102, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013, in Durango, Colo. She resided at Four Corners Health Care Center for the last 5 ½ years. She was a favorite of many of the staff as well as residents. The cause of death was declining health of her old age. Mrs. Shry was born August 22, 1910, in Silver City, Utah, the daughter of Anton and Mary Selan. She attended Fruit Vale School in Grand Junction, Colo., through 8th grade. She married Frank Shry, Jr., in 1930; the marriage later ended in divorce. Mrs. Shry lived on 4th Avenue in Durango for 80 years. She clerked at Wegher's Food Store and at Schluter's Floral. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the SNPJ Lodge, and she enjoyed gardening, crocheting and cooking for her family. Her family said, "We loved Sunday dinners at her house. She always thought that a vegetable garden without dill weed or a potato growing in random spots was not really a garden at all." Mrs. Shry is preceded in death by her former husband, her parents, and eight siblings. She is survived by son Frank (Mary) Shry of Durango, sisters Eva Kramer of Oregon, and Vida Decker of Washington, six grandchildren: Mark (Cathy) Shry of Burtonsville, Md., Jim (Karen) Shry of Cortez, Colo., Dan (Wyn) Shry of Durango, Mary (Sam) Shry of Mancos, Chris (Mike) Mitchell of Durango, and Fritz (Michele) Shry of San Diego, Calif.; 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango. The family will gather for a celebration of life at a later date.
