Obituary for Patricia M. Sheets
Longtime Durango resident Patricia Marie Sheets passed away June 22, 2011, at home.
Pat was born to George and Gladys Wright Burch August 10, 1935, in North Platte, Neb. She attended North Platte schools, where she met and married Harold Dee Sheets August 16, 1952. Harold went to work for Gamble’s Hardware stores. They made several moves before coming to Durango, Colo., in 1967. They purchased the Durango store in 1969. Pat was the bookkeeper and all-around good help. After the August 24, 1974, fire on Main Ave. destroyed their business, Pat went to work for City Market as a checker. She retired from City Market after working there for 15 years. Pat was an excellent housekeeper and a very good cook. She especially loved to bake pies. Pat devoted her life to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pat is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harold Sheets of Durango; sisters Doris Edwards of North Platte, Neb.; Leona Eyten of Lincoln, Neb.; and Beverly Olson of Pierre, S.D.; daughters Linda Sheets and Teresa Johnson of Durango; son Dennis Dee Sheets of Kirtland, N.M.; grandchildren Raelyn Brown, Chad Kesselhuth, Brianna Richardson, Brittney Richardson and Danielle Johnson, all of Durango; Katrina Williams of Texas; Melissa Smith of Farmington, N.M.; and nine great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2011, at First United Methodist Church in Durango. Pastor Roger Haney of First United Methodist Church will be officiating. Burial will occur at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, District II - Southwest Colorado, 1800 E. 3rd Ave, Suite 101, Durango, CO 81301.
