Obituary for
Gwynn E. Shaw
Gwynn E. (Sorem) Shaw, 57, died Sunday, June 5, 2011, at home, in the loving presence of her husband Alexander and daughter, Stefanie in Durango, Colo. Gwynn battled lymphoma since 2008.
Gwynn’s wishes were for a private family memorial and to be cremated. A family memorial hike along the old Galloping Goose railroad bed near Telluride, Colo., was held on Tuesday, June 7, 2011.
Gwynn was born March 21, 1954. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1972 and Worthington Junior College in Worthington, Minn., in 1974 as a licensed vocational nurse. Gwynn moved to Dallas and met her husband Alex. They were married in 1976. Their daughter, Stefanie, was born in 1980. While living in San Antonio, Gwynn worked for Avnet as a business analyst and traveled extensively. She and Alex moved to Durango in 2008 for future retirement, and Gwynn continued to work for Avnet as a contract employee. Gwynn said she loved working for Avnet as it brought out her inner Geek.
Gwynn was an avid reader and cook. She also loved to knit and sew. She enjoyed hiking and living in the mountains.
She is survived by her husband Alex, of Durango, CO, daughter, Stefanie Bell, and son-in-law, Steve, of Englewood, Colo.; her mother Phyliss Sorem of Aledo, Texas; mother-in-law Betty Shaw of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; sister Linda (Ron) Molstad of Hastings, Minn.; brothers Dayton (Connie) of Arlington, Texas, and Brook (Brenda) Sorem, of Grapevine, Texas; and nieces and nephews. Gwynn was preceded in death by her father Vernon Sorem, father-in-law Alexander Shaw Sr., and niece, Carole Ann Molstad.
