Obituary for James E. Scott

James Scott was born March 27, 1956 in Cortez, CO and raised in Towaoc. He passed away October 28,2014 in Denver CO. He attended Cortez schools and graduated from the Cortez High School. James made friends wherever he went and people were drawn to his smile and his sense of humor. After graduating high school James went to Trinidad College for Auto Mechanic training. He then later went to Haskell Jr. Indian College to get his certification to be a mechanic. James accomplished that and got his certification. He then worked for Firestone as a mechanic where he later moved to Montana. Then returned back home. James later started his family and had two girls Jamie and Marlene Scott. James then moved to Ignacio with his family. He loved to fish, hunt, camp and go to the casino. He loved to play his video poker which he was pretty good at. James was also a member of the Native American Church and took his beliefs seriously. He taught his do's and don'ts to his nieces and nephews.
James gave his helping hand when it was needed; he never turned anyone down knowing that he came from the Capota band. Later on in life he welcomed his first grandson Mikah. James was at his happiest knowing that he can now teach his grandson what he knew. A few years later he welcomed two granddaughters Nevaeh and Nariah. He loved them very much and said it reminded him of his two girls when they were little. Any chance he had he went to Las Vegas to see them.
Family meant everything to James. He would always ask, “How everyone was doing?” He would also ask “Are you ok?” If you had lied he already knew and would ask on the other side of the phone “ I am asking.” . He played his fatherly role very well! A visitation will be held at Hood Mortuary November 3, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held November 4, 2014 at the Southern Ute multi-purpose room at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Ouray Cemetery.
