Obituary for Flora Mary Salazar

Flora Mary Salazar, 77, of Ignacio, Colo., was called home by our heavenly father Friday, June 3, 2011, at her home in Ignacio, Colo.

Flora was born to Juan N. Gallegos and Matilda M. Garcia Sept. 3, 1933, in Ignacio. She was the ninth child of eleven children. Her brothers were Frank, Tony, Eddie, John, Willie, and Chris Gallegos. Her sisters were Mary, Molly, Jenny, and Gloria.

On Feb. 2, 1952, she married her lifelong partner John J. Salazar of Ignacio. Their loving union was blessed with nine children: Carol, Selina, Rebecca, Kathy, Johnny, Leroy, Robert, Raymond and Blas.

Mrs. Salazar was a homemaker who loved her family. She loved raising animals on her small farm. Some of her hobbies included fishing, crocheting, doing word search puzzles, taking her children pinon picking, making choke cherry jam, and caring for her dogs Negra, Pam, and Fido. Her sense of humor would bring joy to anyone. She was very caring and loving, and she was adored by all her family. Mrs. Salazar will be greatly missed by all those who loved her, but we know we will have a joyful reunion one day.

Mrs. Salazar was preceded in death by her sons Leroy and Robert Salazar. She is survived by her loving husband John Salazar of Ignacio; daughters Selina Salazar of Ogden, Utah; Carol and Rebecca Salazar and Kathy Trujillo of Ignacio; sons Johnny Salazar of Grand Junction, Colo.; and Raymond and Blas Salazar of Ignacio; brothers Willie Gallegos of Roy, Utah; and Chris Gallegos of Ogden, Utah; sister Mary Gallegos of Ogden, Utah; 24 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Rosary/Viewing will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Ignacio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church with Father Doug Hunt as the celebrant. Burial will take place at Ignacio West Cemetery.

The family would like to give a “Special Thanks” to all who helped Flora out during her time of need. Thank you to Dr. Kearney and staff at Mercy Regional Medical Center, San Juan Basin Health, Los Pinos Fire District, SUCAP, American Home Patient, and all others who helped care for her.
