Obituary for Juanita Russell

Juanita Russell, age 93, died Sunday, July 31, 2011, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Connie and Leo Lloyd in Bayfield, Colo., where she resided for the past three-and-half years. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 8, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at the Bayfield Church of Christ on Highway 160B. Mr. Gene Chapin will officiate. Dedication of the grave and burial will occur at Pine River Cemetery in Bayfield immediately after the funeral service.

Juanita was born Sept. 17, 1917, in Cheraw, Colo., the daughter of Thomas and Daisy (Brizendine) Kinslow. Juanita’s early years were spent in La Junta, Colo., where her family ran a large produce farm. At the age of 10, her mother passed away from tuberculosis. After this she and her family moved to Syracuse, Kansas, where they continued farming and her father married Emma (Wagner) Russell, who lovingly finished raising Juanita. In 1933 Juanita married Tead R. Russell, and in 1934 they moved from Kansas to Bayfield. Mr. Russell was a rancher in the area, and Mrs. Russell was the heart and foundation of her soon to be growing family. Her daughters said very fondly, "Her family was her life and she had great love for her grandchildren. She shared her faith, charity, and hospitality with everyone she knew." Her home cooked meals were unsurpassed, which she served with great joy and love. She also enjoyed sewing -- every young grandchild had a set of Raggedy Anne and Andy from their Grandma Russell. She was also an active member of the Bayfield Church of Christ.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Tead Russell, of 65 years, her parents, and four brothers: Cecil Kinslow, Albert Kinslow, Thomas Kinslow, and Robert Kinslow.

She is survived by three daughters: June Haga and son-in-law Melvin Haga of Ignacio, Colo., Verda Manning of St. George, Utah, and Connie Lloyd and son-in-law Leo Lloyd II of Bayfield, Colo.; twelve grandchildren: Russell Haga, Tead Haga, David Haga, Anita (Haga) Mayes, James Manning, Jay Manning, Jeff Manning, Paige (Manning) Mulford, Leo Lloyd III, John Lloyd, Joe Lloyd, and Stephanie (Lloyd) Sage; 44 great grandchildren; and 21 great-great grandchildren.

Any contributions can be made to the Rocky Mountain Children’s Home through the Bayfield Church of Christ, 2011 U.S. Highway 160B, Bayfield, CO 81122.
