Rubel David Montoya Jr.

Rubel David Montoya Jr., born on July 19, 1942, passed away on July 29, 2024, in Durango, Colorado, shortly after his 82nd birthday. A beloved jokester, Rubel was cherished for his warm spirit and constant humor. In 1963, he married the love of his life and together they built a loving family. Rubel dedicated over 25 years to maintaining Park Elementary, earning the affection of countless students and teachers.

He cherished spending time with his family and bringing laughter to those around him. His passing leaves a profound void to his loved ones. Rubel is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vangie, and their four children: Tommy Montoya (Wendy Maestas), Lorraine (Dennis) Trujillo, Debbra Montoya, and Rubel (Jennifer) Montoya. He also leaves behind a legacy in his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Rubel's life will be held at Sacred Heart Church on August 10th, with a Rosary at 11:30 AM, Mass at 12:00 PM, followed by a potluck reception.
