Marie Matilda Romero (Lopez)
Marie Matilda Romero (Lopez), 86 years young, went home to be with the Lord on January 1, 2014. Matilda was born to Raphael (Spider) Lopez and Mary Lopez (Alvarez) on October 9, 1927. She was married to James Santiago Romero for 25 years until his passing in 1974. She raised 6 children and worked numerous jobs in her community and church in Ignacio, CO. She was very strong in her faith and loved helping others. She loved fishing, baseball, dancing, music, bingo, and life. She was forever 25 and always on the go, watching her grandkids play sports, and spending her time with her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Dennis (Jane) Washington of Montrose, CO, Clara (Lloyd) WashingtonLucero of Ignacio, CO, John (Daleen) Washington of Ignacio, CO, Gilbert (Pen) Washington of Rio Rancho, NM, Justin (Erin) Jung of Aztec, NM, and Denton John Washington of Aztec, NM. Her grandchildren, Jeannette, Stephanie, Ronnie, Lloyd Jr., Melanie, Daphnee, Jimmy, Benjamin, Eloida, Diane, Dawn, Jacob, Marco, Adrian, Derek, and Jaden, and numerous greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Matilda was preceded in death by her parents, 7 siblings, her husband James, and many dear friends and family. A viewing and rosary will be held at Hood Mortuary Chapel in Durango, CO from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 6, 2013. A second rosary will be held at San Ignatius Catholic Church in Ignacio, CO at 6:00 p.m. also on Monday, January 6, 2014. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Ignatius Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Father Damien de la Cruz will be officiating. Interment will take place at Crestview Cemetery next to Elmore's Corner. A dinner to celebrate Matilda's life will immediately follow at Father Andary Hall in Ignacio, CO. Pallbearers are John Washington, Denton John Washington, Justin Jung, Jacob Jung, Marco Grijalva, and Carlos Herrera. Honorary Pallbearers are Ronnie Washington, Lloyd Jr Lucero, Jimmy Washington, Benjamin Washington, Adrian Jung, Derek Jung, and Jaden Cruz. In lieu of flowers, donations to Relay for Life are requested.
