Obituary for Bryan Rock Jr.

Bryan Rock, Jr., died Wednesday, October 5, 2011, of natural causes at his home in Ignacio, Colo. He was 81.

Bryan was born December 2, 1929, in Ignacio, the son of Bryan Rock, Sr., and Alice Rock.

He served as a U.S. Marine during the Korean conflict in 1950-53. He and Donna Red were married January 6, 1967, in Durango.

Bryan worked as a fire fighter and in other capacities for the Southern Ute tribe for most of his adult life. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan, and in his spare time he enjoyed reloading rifles, fishing, hunting, being outdoors, and spending time with his grandkids.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters Mercedes Rock Baker and Graces Gallegos.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Rock, of Ignacio; daughters Lenora Rock and Noreen Rock, both of Ignacio; daughter Jessica Rock of Durango; brother Billy Rock and sister Annette Sage, both of Ignacio, eight grandkids, three great-grandbabies and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1800 E. 3rd Ave., Suite 101, Durango, CO 81301.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2011, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Ignacio. Father Douglas Hunt will be the officiant.
