Richard Geoffrey Lorenz, 74, passed away on Sunday evening, December 4th, 2022, surrounded by family.
Rick was born July 12th, 1948, in Plymouth, Michigan to Ralph and Mabel (Dana) Lorenz. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1966 and from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Rick quickly gained experience in the restaurant business as the owner & manager of Hobie's, a popular restaurant chain in East Lansing, Michigan before another hotel/restaurant opportunity further west arose in Durango, Colorado at the Strater Hotel in 1975. In 1977, Rick decided on a career change when he transitioned into real estate receiving his broker's license in 1985. Starting off his career at Triple S Realty in 1977, Rick became the de-facto expert in real estate for Silverton and the surrounding areas, including lands and mining claims. Rick joined the Wells Group in 1994 and was one of the company's longest tenured employees at the time of his death. He had a tireless work ethic and his passion for his work was evident in the close relationships he formed with his clients.
Rick's faith in God and his faith in the Denver Broncos were never failing. He spent many Sunday mornings at First Baptist Church, and afternoons or evenings catching the game on TV. He gained a love of minerals and mining from his work, and co-owned mining properties in Silverton that he enjoyed visiting with his family and friends. His favorite places to visit were Minnehaha Basin in Silverton, and Knowle's Canyon and Forgotten Canyon at Lake Powell.
Rick is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Debi Lorenz; along with four children: Rick (Kim) Lorenz; Britney (Kevin) Meier; Joshua Lorenz; and Kristine Lorenz; two step-children: Ami (Tim) Larson; Chris (Jennifer) Parton; nine grandchildren: Dan, Payton, Colin, Tyler, Katie, Emma, Sean, Maddie, and Katherine; step-mom: Terry Lorenz; five siblings: Staton (Carol) Lorenz; Sheila (Fred) Osann; Kirk Lorenz; Scott (Yvonne) Lorenz; Randy (Mary) Lorenz; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held December 10th at 11 am at First Baptist Church located at 332 11th street, Durango, Colorado 81301. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Rick's name to the Mission Fund at First Baptist Church. Those wishing to sign the guest book can do so online via the Hood Mortuary website.
