Rene Gregory Smith

July 7, 1970 — February 3, 2023

Fort Collins, Colorado

An angel in our family has left us. Rene Quintana Smith died on February 3, 2023, in FT. Collins, CO. Rene was born in FT. Collins on July 7, 1970.

Rene is survived by his mother, Dr. Elaine Quintana and stepfather Fred Guterriez of Pueblo West, CO, and by his father Gregg Smith of San Antonio, TX. Also Surviving are many cousins, aunts and uncles who will travel from 8 U.S. States for a final good bye to a most loving and loved person - Rene.

Rene was a world traveler. He loved people. He loved life and in return the universe loved him. Rene relayed stories of his many travels at home and abroad. He chatted with the Pope during World Youth Day in the 1980's. In Europe and the Far East he met new friends. In Austin Texas, Rene chatted with Lady Bird Johnson. He served lunch to the First Lady when he worked as a waiter while attending the University. We all laughed when Rene told us that after lunch he asked his co-workers: "Who was she anyway? She must be important." Rene and his dad were avid car racing fans, traveling together to race car venues. He cherished and "cared for" his race car, similar to how many of us pamper our favorite pet.

After college, Rene moved to Ignacio to help care for his maternal grandmother, Adela Quintana, then returning later to the city of his birth, Fort Collins, where he was employed by Home Depot.

Services will be at ST. Ignatius on Saturday, February 18, 2023,with a Rosary at 9:00am and Mass at 10:00am. Rene will be laid to rest in the Rosa Cemetery. We will greatly miss our most gentle, loving soul - Rene.
