Obituary for Lavone D. Reed
Lavone Darlene Reed passed away peacefully at home in Durango on Sunday, March 4, 2012. She was 89.
Lavone was born November 4, 1922, in Rozel, Kan., to Dewey and Hattie (Wimberly) Franz.
The family remembers, "She was a loving and devoted mother who placed her children first in her life. She made the best cinnamon rolls in the world."
Lavone’s hobbies were playing cards and being around family. She loved her cat, Sassy, and Sassy was very devoted to her as well.
She is preceded in death by her sister Jean Stuart. She is survived by her children: Joy Marden and Cheryl Ashby of Durango, Colo., Roy Reed, Jr., of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Larry Reed of Hawaii, and Billy David Reed of Arvada, Colo.; two sisters: Nadine Balman and Lois Humphrey of Wichita, Kan.; eight grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
The family will hold a private graveside service at Greenmount Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lavone Darlene Reed Memorial Fund, First National Bank of Durango, 259 W. 9th St./P.O. Box 2910, Durango, CO 81302.
