Obituary for
Helen Iona Prough (Waters)
Durango resident Helen Iona Prough died Saturday May 24, 2014 at Four Corner Health Care Center where she resided for the last 2 months. She was 95.
Helen was born to Clarence and Almeda Waters on August 25, 1918 in Fort Morgan, Colorado. Her family moved to Pueblo, CO when she was 8, this is where she made her home until due to health reasons she moved to Durango to be with family 8 years ago. She married her high school sweetheart Clifford Prough Sr. July 4, 1936 in Colorado Springs. Together they raised three children.
She worked for Raymond Bowers Photographic Studio for a number of years and also taught art classes for the 5th and 6th graders at Beulah Heights Schools for a couple of years, which she really enjoyed. Helen was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1934 which brought her a strong faith and happiness that she shared with others. All who met her will miss her smile and graciousness.
Mrs Prough was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Prough Sr. In 1994 and a son
Kenneth Dale Prough in 1992. Mrs Prough is survived by her son Clifford Prough Jr., of
Arkansas and daughter Kay Joyce Hopper (James) of Durango. She had 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, which brought her happiness.
