Sherri Prairie Chief

Sherrie (Tyner) Prairie Chief passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020. She passed at her home in Ignacio, CO, surrounded by family and friends. She was 61 years old. She was born in Shiprock, NM.

Tyner lived most of her life in Ignacio, CO., but attended school in other areas. She graduated high school and entered the work world. She held many jobs but especially enjoyed carpentry work, which she did as a hobby until her passing. She worked as a dispatcher for the Southern Ute Police Department before making a career change to work with the Southern Ute Tribal Court System as a bailiff and then a court clerk. Her last position was as an Associate Prosecutor.

Tyner loved spending time with her best friend and companion of 27 years, Venerita Valdez. She also loved spending time and talking for hours on the phone with her mom, Sharon Pinnecoose. She also spoke as often as she could with her son, Scott Prairie Chief. Her two nieces, Shiria (Shiri) Howell and Suzi Richards spent time visiting and creating loving memories with her. She adored her two grandsons, Joseph Howell and Aedeen Richards, who spend many nights with her. Her Uncle George Howell, Sr. loved joking and having long conversations with her about the Oklahoma Sooners.

She loved doing Native American arts and crafts, including helping dress her two grandsons for pow wows and other events. She loved watching the Oklahoma Sooners and Dallas Cowboy football teams.

She is survived by her best friend and companion, Venerita Valdez of Ignacio, son, Meonahan Scott Prairie Chief of California, mother, Sharon Pinnecoose and stepfather Barney Pinnecoose, both of Ignacio, brother, Jack Frost, Jr. of Ignacio, brother, Andrew Frost of Towaoc, sister, Jacqueline Frost of Ignacio, an uncle, George Howell, Sr. and aunt Pat Howell, both of Pawnee, OK, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and her dedicated medial and support team, Carole Valdez, Hailey Yesslith, Helene Peabody, Claressa Valdez, Dayna Esparza and Barbara Valdez, whom were by her side daily till her passing,

She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Thelma Stoneroad, two brothers, Delos Prairie Chief and William Frost and two sisters, Andrea Richards and Suzette Frost.

A graveside memorial service will be held at Ignacio East Cemetery on Monday, November 2, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with a dinner to follow at her home at 1115 Shoshone Ave, Ignacio, CO (individuals will need to supply their own seating).
