Obituary for
Louis J. Piccoli
Louis Joseph Piccoli died November 29, 2012, in Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez, Colo., of natural causes. He was 96.
Mr. Piccoli was born October 13, 1916, in Denver. He grew up and lived his whole life in La Plata County, attending Durango High School and the "Old" Fort Lewis College in Hesperus. He was a lifelong rancher and farmer.
The only break from his life in La Plata County was during World War II, when he served several years in the European Theatre in heavy artillery in the Army. Upon Mr. Piccoli’s return he met Dorothy Palizzi, and they were married in 1946. They had two children, a son and a daughter.
Mr. Piccoli was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a member of the Colorado Cattleman's Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, in 1972. He is survived his son, Ken Piccoli, of Cortez; daughter, Darlene Jones, of Dripping Springs, Texas; sister, Lorraine Bonan, of Cortez; one niece; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Hood Mortuary Chapel in Durango.
