Obituary for Todd William Peterson

Durango resident Todd W. Peterson died Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Mercy Regional Medical Center of a sudden illness. He was 51. Todd was born in Boston, Mass., on December 5, 1961, to Sally and Richard Peterson. He attended Vail Mountain School during mid-school and high school and graduated in 1980. In 1984, he graduated from Western State College with a Liberal Arts degree. In 1984, he also moved to Durango and started working at Purgatory Ski Area, as a much loved lift operator. He fell in love with and married Deanne Enriquez in September 1993. This coming September, they would have been celebrating their 20th year of marriage. In 1994, Todd went to work for UPS and has worked there for the last 19 years. Todd enjoyed Colorado professional sport teams, astronomy, playing guitar and being outside. He was a devoted dad and loving husband. He cherished being with his family. He is survived by his wife, Deanne Peterson, his daughter, Julia Peterson, his father, Richard Peterson, his stepmother, Susie Peterson, and his mother-in-law, Ida Enriquez, all of Durango; uncle, Alan Peterson of Columbus, Ohio; and numerous brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday, May 27, 2013, at Hood Mortuary Chapel at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 254 East 5th Avenue, Durango, Colo. Burial of cremains will follow at Greenmount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a fund has been established at Bank of Colorado in the name of the Todd Peterson. Checks should be made payable to Deanne Peterson with Todd’s name in the memo field. This fund is for the benefit of Julia’s education.
