Murray J. Pearthree
Murray James Pearthree, 91, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013, in Durango, Colo. Mr. Pearthree lived in Durango for 17 years. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church of Durango. Pastor Jeff Huber will be officiating.
Mr. Pearthree was born August 27, 1921, in McGregor, Minn., the son of Arnim and Christine Pearthree. Murray grew up on his father’s dairy farm in Northern Minnesota and he graduated from McGregor High School during the Great Depression. After assorted jobs in Duluth, Minn., he accepted a sales position with Morton Salt Company where he held jobs with increasing job responsibility for 40 years. He married Jean Rutter on December 19, 1942, in Duluth, Minn. As his career developed the family lived in a number of towns and cities in Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Ohio. He retired from management with Morton Salt while living in New Jersey in the late 1980’s. Shortly after retirement, Murray and Jean moved to Durango to be close to their daughter and her husband.
Murray was an avid hunter, loved farming and, later in life, golf. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was beloved by his family.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Pearthree, of Durango, three children: Linda McLaughlin of Durango, Vicki Raeburn of New York, N.Y., and Philip Pearthree of Tucson, Ariz., five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two siblings: Agnes Barrott of Lewiston, Idaho, and Harold Pearthree of McGregor, Minn.
