Arthur Jackson Payne was born on June 26, 1941 at Mercy Medical Hospital to Glen A. Payne and EvelynL. Payne. His parents lived at Vallecito Reservoir where Glen was a superintendent for Bureau of Reclamation. The family moved to Ignacio Colorado to the Hidden Ranch. Glen went into partnership with Arthur Jones and Evan Parry. Jackson graduated from Ignacio High School in 1959. After high school, Jackson joined the armed forces to see the world. He started basic training in Lackland Airforce Base, and technical training in Armarillo Texas. Jackson graduated as a Jet Aircraft Mechanic the remainder of his technical training in Amarillo, Texas. Jackson graduated as a Jet Aircraft Mechanic the remainder of his four years. While in the service he saw England, Libya, North Africa, Germany, & France.
Jackson's first marriage ended in divorce. He later married Blanche Boughan on February 4, 1967. Together they raised one boy and three girls on the ranch owned by Jackson's parents & grandparents.
Jackson's favorite memories were being above Vallecito creek with Grandpa Jones, his Dad. He enjoyed fishing, helping with the pack string, and being outdoors. As a father he enjoyed every minute he spent with this kids. He taught them about life on the farm, and the difference between right and wrong. He also enjoyed his work helping others in drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
Jackson was a great story-teller. He had many storied to tell which were mostly true. One of his favorite stories was of being in the high country with his Dad and the sheep herd. There was a bear trying to get the sheep, it was dark and pouring rain. The family sheepdog alerted them to the danger and the two of them burst into action. They lost twenty head that night.
Jackson possessed a kind and generous heart He was quick to smile and laugh, but stern when necessary.
His children have fond memories of helping Jackson on the farm, rounding up and sheering sheep, going to auctions. He leaves with them an instilled appreciation and love of family.
Jackson is survived by his wife Blanche Payne; Daughters Marcella Martinez, Cheryl Payne, Linda Payne; Step-son Ira Eugene Linson; Sister Glenda Hocker; Grandchildren Gregory Allen Payne, Austin Scott Payne, Cory James Schmit, Katie McManus, Robert Moore Jr., April Nicole Miliano, Dante Anthony Miliano, and Evelyn Louise Rangel; and his nieces & nephews.
He is preceded in death by his son Gregory Scott Payne; and parents Glen & Evelyn Payne.
