Obituary for
Dillon J. Paxton
Dillon James Paxton, 16, died Friday, August 31, 2012, in Silverton, Colo. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2012, at Silverton High School Gymnasium. Cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango, Colo.
Mr. Paxton was born in Durango on December 13, 1995, to David Paxton and Keri Lea Metzler. He grew up and attended schools in Silverton. He was selected as an ambassador for People to People (a student civic program that shapes the leaders of tomorrow) and traveled to Washington D.C. He was an excellent student. Among his school and extracurricular activities were distance running, snowboarding, skiing, and rock climbing.
Dillon was a passionate civil servant and volunteer as is required in Silverton schools, but he always served above and beyond all requirements. He also was a peer guide for the Silverton Youth Center and served on the Youth Advisory Council. In the business of school work and other activities, Dillon managed to work at Mother Cluckers and the Brown Bear in Silverton.
He is survived by his parents: David W. Paxton of Montrose and Keri Metzler of Silverton, his siblings: Tanner Paxton of Silverton, Amber Kelso, of Waterville, Kan., and Adam Walker, of Colorado Springs, Colo., his grandparents, Gib and Joylea Gibson, of Silverton, Nikki Paxton (stepmother), Kevin Baldwin (stepfather) and numerous aunts uncles and cousins.
As a final act of generosity to others, Dillon chose to be an organ donor through Donor Alliance.
