Obituary for Mildred Newton

Mildred Newton, 79, of Aztec, N.M., passed away peacefully at her home, Wednesday, April 11, 2012. Mildred was born January 6, 1933, in Weir, W.Va.

She was a mom, sister, grandma, gambling buddy, and the trailer park watchdog. She loved her family and friends and would do anything for any one of them. She loved her gardening, and she took special pride in her lawn. If she wasn't working in her yard, she was on the go -- off to the casino she went. She loved every single one of her grandbabies -- she gave them all nicknames.

Her family said of her, "She was our glue -- our ornery tiny; A "go to" for everything. She will definitely be missed and never forgotten. She was always doing something for someone and never asked or took from anyone. She was very stubborn, but the strongest, for sure. She is loved and will be missed dearly till we meet again."

She is preceded in death by her one and only true love, husband Herbert Lee Newton, Jr.; Dad, Dewey Rose; Mom, Eliza Rose; sister Helen Shamblin, and brother Paul Rose.

She is survived by her children: Robin Hinshaw (Spouse: Lloyd Stockham) of Aztec, N.M., Greg Newton of Aztec, N.M., and Lee Newton (Spouse: Candy Newton) of Bayfield, Colo., grandkids: Tara Hockenhull, Arron Hinshaw, Buddy Newton, Jenny Byrd, Seth Newton, Savannah Newton, and Makayla Newton; great-grandkids: Jordan Hockenhull, Deschanel Hockenhull, Shalynn Byrd, Bentlee Parry, and Micheal Peace; sisters Nead Rose and Sybil Taylor; brothers Orville, Hoyt, and Daryell Rose; her best friend and gambling buddy Maxcine Flaherty, numerous nieces, nephews and "adopted" grandkids.

A visitation will occur from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2012 at Hood Mortuary Chapel in Durango. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at the Church of Christ in Bayfield, Colo., with Ray Calloway officiating. Burial will take place at Pine River Cemetery.
