Obituary for
John Necchi
Longtime resident John Necchi passed into eternity October 24, 2015 in Castle Rock, Colorado at the age of 93.
John and his brother, Fred, were well known builders & contractors in the Durango area. John and Fred started their business in the 1950's in Durango plastering, stuccoing, & doing concrete work. Among their many projects they plastered & stuccoed the Graden building and they poured & finished the floor of the Tacoma power station which took 14 straight hours. John & Fred were well known for their quality and craftsmanship. In the late 1950's they started building houses in the Crestview area. John and his brother are credited with building over 70 houses in the Durango area. John lost his brother in 1962 but continued to build houses until 1967 when he bought & operated the Royal Motel on North Main Ave. He & his wife Elayne operated the motel until 1969 when they sold the business. John then purchased a furniture store in Cortez, Colorado, and named it Necchi's Furniture. He operated the furniture store until 1972 when he sold it. John then worked for various contractors and individuals doing masonry, carpentry, & concrete work. In 1975 John started building houses again on 32nd street. He continued to build houses until he was 80 years old & built his final retirement home by the water treatment plant. John & his wife moved to Castle Rock, Colorado in 2010.
John is survived by his wife of 69 years Elayne Necchi of Castle Rock, Colorado; son Tom Necchi & his wife Lorna Necchi of Durango; daughter Doris Thrall of Centennial; granddaughter April Rupp & her husband Kevin of Castle Rock; grandson Corey Jacobsen and 5 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Hood Mortuary.
